The day we got here, Russ was feeling bad. We thought it was the long plane trip, the new environment, etc, etc. He was having very bad stomach cramps. There is a doctor here in the mission. He came over and looked at him and gave him some stuff for constipation. He was in bed for the first 3 days. I told him it was because we are in the Southern hemisphere and he is hanging upside down!!! Anyway, one night he was feeling pretty rough and wanted to go to the hospital. We went, they did an exam, He has a kidney stone. It is a 6 mm, so too big to pass. So they kept him in the hospital over night and were going to do surgery on Sunday morning. (the hospitals here are much better than a kidney stone in Bulgaria, Eric). So when they went in he was full of infection. They put in a stint to isolate the stone and closed him up. He is on heavy doses of antibiotics to get the infection cleared up. Then in 2 weeks he will go back in for surgery to remove the stone. He is suppose to come home today.
The hospitals here are great. nothing like Eastern Europe. The medical care and doctors are very good. We have been happy with the services. Dad is doing great. I am sure everything will be fine, but would you still keep him in your prayers?
So it has been a pretty rough beginning, but no where to go but up. We like it here. We haven't seen much yet, but I am sure we will. The area offices and family history center are modern and nice. The people are very nice and willing to help.
